Stefan Milenkovich’s International Music Institute
A three-week International Music Institute
Project Description
The International Music Institute, founded by violinist and music pedagogue Stefan Milenković with the support of the national platform Serbia Creates, has been organizing this top international educational program for three years, which is primarily intended for talented students or other talented musicians under the age of 18.
Stefan Milenković’s previous three masterclasses were held in Čačak in 2021, in Novi Sad in 2022, and in Belgrade in 2023, each time bringing together more than 20 of the most talented violinists from the world of classical music.
About the International Music Institute
The Institute was created as a result of almost 25 years of combined experience of professor Milenkovic’s pedagogical work at the Juilliard School (New York) and the University of Illinois. Students will have an opportunity to work daily with Professor Milenkovic through individual, group and theory classes. Along with improving musical expression and violin technique, the participants of the Institute will engage in daily physical exercises designed specifically for violinists in order to prevent injuries, increase mobility and energy, as well as specific breathing exercises, guided relaxation and meditation, which aim to minimize stage fright and sharpen concentration.
A Child Prodigy and Global Violin Sensation
One of Serbia’s most famous violinists and the youngest graduate of the Belgrade University of Arts, Stefan Milenkovich has, in the last few years, taken up a regular teaching position at the Illinois University in USA, as well as a guest lecturer position at the Belgrade Faculty of Music. Upon returning to Serbia, he was awarded a teaching position at the Music Department of the Novi Sad Academy of Arts, as a professor of string instruments. He was also recruited as the art director of the first City Concert Hall in Novi Sad, which is part of the Music and Ballet School of Novi Sad. He started playing the violin at age three, and had his first solo performance with an orchestra at the age of six. In his rich career, he has played the violin for a number of world statesmen: in 1987, he performed for US President Ronald Reagan at a Christmas concert in Washington D.C. In 1988, it was Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachov in Belgrade, while in 1991, Stefan played for Pope John Paul II.
