Project description

Serbia Creates Screen is a national platform designed to revolutionize the way Serbia’s screen industries are showcased on the global stage. The campaign showcases Serbia as a powerhouse of creativity with exceptional talent and infrastructure for content creation.

Serbia Creates Screen is a part of wider initiative under the platform, Serbia Creates, which is an organisation in charge of global promotion of Serbia’s export potential in the field of creative industries, innovation, and knowledge-based economy and Telekom Serbia, the leading content provider and the biggest producer in the region.

The campaign reflects the strategic direction and dedication of the Government of Republic of Serbia to base Serbian economic and social development on creativity and innovation, which are the most valuable resources in the economy of the 21st century.

From the historic streets of Belgrade, where the juxtaposition of ancient architecture and modern vibrancy creates a visually stunning backdrop, to the breathtaking natural scenery of Tara National Park, Serbia offers a myriad of locations that can seamlessly transport audiences to various cinematic worlds. The country’s rich cultural tapestry is evident in its well-preserved castles, monasteries, and quaint villages, providing filmmakers with a treasure trove of settings that span different eras. Filming locations in Serbia include old breweries, wine cellars and citadels such as Golubac or Kalmedegan. Photographers and producers can also use urban locations which mix German, communist and modern architecture, but also traditional villages.

Whether it’s a period piece, contemporary drama, or epic adventure, Serbia’s diverse and picturesque locations set the stage for unforgettable storytelling on the silver screen.

The Serbia Film Commission provides a rich and diverse filming locations database, easily accessible through the following link.

Central to the offering is Serbia’s film incentive programme that offers a 20-30% rebate on all qualifying expenditure in Serbia – for feature films, TV series, animation films and visual effects, television commercials, and documentaries. For feature films with a local production expenditure of over €5 million, the incentive rises to 30%. For every euro invested through this programme, €4.5 euros is generated.

Serbia’s film incentive programme is not only generous and on par with the best in Europe, it is also extremely well managed. Reports of programme funds being released within five days of completion are not uncommon.

VAT is set at 20% for all sales of goods and services, including imports, except for sales and import which is taxed at a lower preferential rate of 10% (e.g. for hotels and catering).

The Government of Serbia has demonstrated a keen understanding of the significant potential inherent in the screen industry, through strategic initiatives, tax incentives, and supportive policies, hence the Government has fostered an environment conducive to film production and investment.

The synergy between the Government and the screen industry is essential, as it provides the necessary resources, infrastructure, and regulatory framework for the development, production, and promotion of films, ultimately contributing to the cultural, economic, and social vitality of a country.
