As part of the second phase of works on the construction of Ložionica, the first center of creative industries in Serbia,  work is starting on the renovation of the old Water Tower, which will soon become a modern exhibition space for multimedia and immersive exhibitions.

At the site of today’s water tower, right next to the Gazela bridge, three buildings alternated. The first tower was destroyed during the Great War, after which a new one was built in the same place, until in 1945 the water tower got its final form. Unofficial data indicate that the scientist Milutin Milanković participated in the design of the tower between the two wars.

The water tower will be completely reconstructed, with a finish in terracotta red shade, in the spirit of the Gazelle bridge, based on  the solution of “AKVS architectural studio”, which won the international competition. However, its new purpose will make the Water Tower a new favorite place in the city. The interior of the former water tower, about 20 meters high and about 8 meters in diameter, will become a canvas for digital artists.

“After decades of neglect, the water tower, which was forgotten and covered with advertising billboards, will become a unique exhibition space that Serbia does not have at the moment, which will serve exclusively multimedia artists. The real magic will happen inside, the exhibitions will be an experience for all senses, and a maximum of 20 people will be able to stay in the space at the same time. This ensures a unique experience for every visitor, and the Ložionica, together with the Water Tower, will become a real symbol of creative Belgrade, a gathering place for all creatives, artists, but also visitors and tourists,” said Ana Ilić, director of the Ložionica and the national platform Serbia creates.

Ložionica will become the first creative-innovative multifunctional center in this region a century after its creation, designed to gather the most creative people in Serbia under one roof, to be an incubator of creative ideas, art, and innovation.

The original creators and investors of the project are the national platform Serbia creates the Government of Serbia and the Office for Information Technologies and Electronic Administration of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
